Before you can fly you must complete the Aircraft Ground Handling course in AXIS and you should complete the Air Crew Professionalism course as well.  For the remainder of the summer these will be scheduled for the second Saturday of the month to run concurrently with Young Eagles flights.  Contact 2nd Lt Schumacher to schedule your flight today!

UPCOMING EVENTS

August 3 – Mission Scanner Training

We will hold a Mission Scanner ground school in the EAA Building for senior members and cadets starting at 9 AM on Saturday, August 3rd.  You must complete GES 116 and sign up at https://form.jotform.com/242018150250037  in order to attend.  If you’re a cadet, this is an opportunity to learn more about what air crews do when we’re called on for an Emergency Services mission.  If there’s time at the end, we’ll do some radio practice for those who want it.

August 10 – EAA Pancake Breakfast - Young Eagles – Cadet Orientation Rides

Beginning August 10th our local EAA chapter will be experimenting with a new format for its Pancake Breakfast and Young Eagles program.  Flying will be done on the two Jaybird simulators that are now working thanks to Lt Col Aronson and his genius friend Diego.  There will also be several STEM activities to gauge interest in a larger program.  EAA needs adults to help in the kitchen, and cadets and senior members to help Young Eagles with the simulators and the STEM activities.  Please contact Lt Maggie Schumacher if you can help in the kitchen or are interested in helping with the Jaybirds and the STEM activities.

August 12-16 – Mission to Mars Space Camp

Parents, senior members and cadets, please contact Lt Col Aronson at kirmas4530@gmail.com if you can help out, even if it’s only for a few hours.

August 13 – Training and Information Night & Open House

We will have a guest speaker for the first hour.

Make-up promotion items, other than drill, available if requested in advance.

Help on IS courses for drone technician rating

August 24 – Minden Airport Open House

The Douglas County (Minden) Squadron is looking for help from cadets and senior members for this event.  They need assistance with a CAP information booth, and at a Cessna 182 and the glider explaining CAP flying programs. Cadets may also be walking through the flight line assisting visitors as needed and helping in the squadron building, which will be a place for attendees to rest. As it is not an overnight activity they are not requiring a permission slip but Lt Col Russ Smith wants to know who will be coming (seniors and cadets).  If you plan on going, please contact SM Jack Ellis.  If there are enough members who want to help we’ll provide transportation

The activity is from 8am to 2pm

October 4-6 – Reno Air Show

Reno Squadron needs help for the upcoming Reno Air Show.  You can sign up on their squadron web site at Reno Air Show — RENO COMPOSITE SQUADRON.  If enough seniors and cadets sign up we may be able arrange transportation for you up and back.

TRAINING SEMINARS

Unless otherwise noted, these events are posted on the Reno Squadron’s website.  The folks in Reno generally want you to sign up so they can arrange the space and plan for lunch.  Some classes are broadcast via Microsoft Teams and recordings may be available but it’s better to be there in person if you can.

Mission to Mars Space Camps

Our squadron provides guest lecturers for these camps, which are sponsored by the EAA and aimed at 8 to 12-year-olds.  Lt Col Ken Aronson and his wife, 2nd Lt Rolann Aronson, are the principal lecturers.  Senior members and cadets can help with logistics and training.  Many of our cadets are graduates of this program and a few have attended more than once.  This year, there are still two more camps:

  • August Space Camp the week of August 12 (five successive weekdays)
  • Fall Space Camp on Saturdays only September 28, October 5, 12, 19 and 26

Contact Lt Col Aronson at kirmas4530@gmail.com if you can help out.
